Megan Quintrell
Advocacy Cohort Lead
For Megan (they/them), their passion for being an advocate originated out of witnessing the specific needs of students and families that were perpetually underserved in the public education system. Megan grew up in a multiracial and multilingual family, with their mother being a first-generation Costa Rican immigrant and their father, an Irish American. In the early 90s, Megan's family moved from Southern California to a small, rural town in SW Washington, where racism and assimilation to the dominant culture were heavily present. While working in education for thirteen years, Megan found their innate drive towards justice, knowledge sharing, and community building were essential skills in navigating systemic forms of oppression. As a queer, non-binary, white-passing, bi-racial Latinx individual, Megan feels it's their role to help champion and create intentional spaces that value equity, inclusion, and advocacy for our most impacted communities. Megan is passionate about implementing systems that reflect trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and restorative approaches. Their experience led them to participate in many district equity committees where they collaborated in creating and redesigning policies to protect Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Expansive students and staff.
What excites Megan most about joining Oregon Consumer Justice is the dedication to creating equitable and sustainable consumer policies that empower Oregonians with the freedom to thrive. Megan has a bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from Oregon State University. They live in Salem with their child, partner, and fur children. They enjoy creating and collecting art, cooking Latinx food, and soaking up all that the PNW nature has to offer!
