Anali Ghaseminia (she/her), an undergrad at Barnard College of Columbia University, joined OCJ Law for three months of hands-on learning and professional development focused on consumer rights and protections.
Anali jumped into a wide range of responsibilities during her time with the team, giving her a holistic sense of OCJ and OCJ Law's mission and impact in the community. Behind the scenes, she gained tactical experience navigating court dockets and mastering federal and state court websites—skills that have broadened her understanding of the legal landscape and prepared her for the intricacies of casework.
Traveling to the courthouse with her mentor, Lucia Becchetti, OCJ Law's Trial and Litigation Paralegal, was one of the most memorable aspects of Anali’s internship. Across three visits she had the opportunity to observe a medical malpractice trial and see pivotal moments like witness testimonies, jury instructions, and closing arguments. This brought her learning full circle, showing her the real-world application of legal principles in the lives of Oregonians.
Anali shared deep gratitude for the guidance and support of the OCJ Law team, who helped her expand her legal skillset while gaining clarity about a future career path in law.
“OCJ Law has been such a special, engaging, welcoming environment in which I have felt free to find and foster my interests and passions.”
Anali is earning a bachelor of arts in political science and serves as a junior editor and staff writer at the Columbia Political Review. She plans to attend law school following a gap year, pursuing her interest in advocating for communities most impacted by inequity.
