News OCJ staff and interns gather in a conference room to hear final presentations.

Take a few moments to read about each of their contributions and their reflections on their time with OCJ:

  • Taylor Westlund (she/her) focused her work on home equity theft, contributing her energy to the passage of HB 4056. She reflected on how much of her learning came from listening, observing, and maximizing her opportunities to meet folks who work in the consumer law space both here in Oregon and nationally. Of the overall experience, Taylor shared: “I feel more confident in myself and am waiting to work for a company that is aligned with me.”
  • Devon Gonzalez-Yoxtheimer (they/them) used their writing and legal research skills to support Right to Repair (SB 1596) and other priority bills during the session. They also did a deep-dive on arbitration for OCJ’s future reference and use. They share that the experience provided “[A] deeper appreciation for consumer law as well as the legislative process.”
  • Max Derenoncourt, MD (he/him), has interned with OCJ for the past two terms, marking six months of learning and collaboration. Max has grown his understanding of health financial policy advocacy, contributing to OCJ’s support of a bill on the corporate practice of medicine (HB 4130) and the passage of co-pay assistance legislation (HB 4113). Be sure to read Max’s policy brief on medical credit cards.

We will continue to strengthen this program and look forward to welcoming our summer interns next week!
