News Attorney Nadia Dahab speaks to a group with a historical advertisement on the screen at OCJ’s first CLE.

We welcomed 60 people, including judges, attorneys from various sectors (private, public interest, enforcement), law students, and advocates, to learn about consumer protection from exceptional speakers and panelists.

"Stoked on the next one. I’m going to say best CLE so far in 2024. It was big enough to learn, but small enough to network with everyone." -CLE Event Attendee

It was an incredible day filled with learning and important dialogues on-stage and offline, where folks came together to grow a stronger consumer legal community for Oregonians. Attorney Nadia Dahab led off the day with a high-level overview of consumer protection laws. Invoking her professorial skills, attendees worked with their table mates and as a large group to explore how consumer protection laws appear in our daily lives and the enforcement structures that are in place. This foundational conversation set the stage for an outstanding panel of experts to engage with one another in conversation and audience Q&A on emerging and key issues across consumer protection. Our educational programming closed with Odette Williamson, Senior Attorney at the National Consumer Law Center, who spoke about how racial justice and consumer justice intersect and discussed the legal tools available to fight against predatory and discriminatory home lending.

The day closed with a networking reception, facilitating an opportunity for attendees to reflect on their learnings and comfortably connect with new and long-time colleagues with drinks and snacks in hand. OCJ was thrilled to host such a positive event for the legal community, with this day marking the first of many where we will unite to learn and deepen our ability to support Oregon consumers. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our speakers, panelists, and attendees for making this event the success it was!
