Debt is a common part of life in this country.

We turn to credit, loans, and other forms of borrowing daily to cover everything from the basics to unexpected expenses. While some debt can feel manageable, just another part of how you tackle your financial obligations, it can also become an overwhelming burden that can comprise our financial stability and well-being.

The second installment of our Consumer Confidence Comics series, titled "Dealing with Debt Collection", offers practical tips regarding collection calls, how to respond if you receive a debt collection notice, your consumer rights related to debt collection, and how to position yourself to negotiate a payment plan to meet your needs and circumstances. Oregon Consumer Justice partnered with consumer attorneys Kelly Donovan Jones and Michael Fuller and, once again, local illustrator Audra McNamee to bring this issue to life!

While this issue covers a lot regarding debt collection, it's only part one. Issue #3, set for release in Spring 2025, will explore options and available protections if you end up in court because of your debt.
