News Two comic book covers titled 'Purchasing a Used Car' and 'Comprar un Carro Usado,' featuring colorful illustrations of characters buying a car.

Oregon Consumer Justice (OCJ) is thrilled to launch a new resource for Oregonians—Consumer Confidence Comics. Our debut issue, "Purchasing a Used Car," is a comprehensive guide to navigating the complexities of the used car market and doubles as an interactive coloring book, making it a unique educational tool for all Oregonians.

"In a marketplace that often doesn't prioritize consumers, it's crucial we put people first," says Jagjit Nagra, OCJ’s Executive Director. "Many of us never learned the ins and outs of purchasing a vehicle at school, so it's no surprise that auto-related issues often top consumer complaints and issue areas. Our approach with this comic, and future ones, is to level the playing field, providing Oregonians with resources that promote informed decisions and confidence."

Developed in collaboration with consumer attorney and author Young Walgenkim and local illustrator Audra McNamee, the first issue of Consumer Confidence Comics covers crucial topics to steer clear of used car problems. Available in both English and Spanish, this comic explores financing options, spotting and avoiding scams, and knowing what steps to take if things don’t go as planned with a car purchase, among other import tips and takeaways. Plus, QR codes direct readers to in-depth online articles, enhancing the learning experience with additional information as well as downloadable resources to take to the dealership.
